“ the instant of actuality is all we can ever know directly. The rest of time emerges only in signals…”

This quote by George Kubler has fascinated me for four years. My work involves looking for traces of how time is recorded, both in nature and by man (as in the archive). I then use these traces to explore and respond to facets of time.

We know time only indirectly by what happens in it. Photography and film have the unique ability to capture time and I use them to observe change and permanence, note successive events and contrast varying rates of change. The archive also marks time and holds physical links with the past, which have been a rich source of inspiration to me.
