In (sub)urban London, humans and animals inhabit the same environment, yet their encounter is fleeting. Coming face to face with a fox in the middle of town temporarily uplifts everyday life into another dimension.
Tracing the fox as it suddenly appears and disappears within the line of vision, the work explores the interface between human and animal habitat. Somewhere between being a pet and a wild beast of prey the fox plays a part in an installation with shadows, in which the everyday location of urban London meets its imaginary and illusionary silhouette.
Roos van Haaften (Amsterdam, 1983) studied theatre and fine arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands, before coming to London in 2008.
