Riva Pearce

Riva Pearce is interested in the ability of the human body to provoke uncertainty in the viewer. Playing with perceptions of truth and normality, in her more recent work the debased figures interact with the sterile gallery environment and the viewer, causing a sometimes destabilizing but often curious effect, where the constraint of ideologies is thrown into disarray. Through an expanded definition of painting a void is created, a no-mans-land where the gentle beasts neither fight for attention nor remain passive. The use of the body is a constant reminder of the human condition and a sometimes comical representation of the desperate human nature.
