A self-portrait, like the act of writing a journal or a letter, constructs the self as the other, making to others a particular representation of the subject which the author has selected. The autobiographical is thus not an unmediated expression of inner being, but the production of a fiction self which functions as a form of a self “re-presentation”.
The body can re-represent the journey of life in the most personal and honest form. Time is drawn over and under the skin, living unique and permanent marks, in an internal-external very fragile balance.
