Ilka Leukefeld
Natural life cycles, the concept of the transitional nature of life, the unsustainable, the ever changing; Theories and images related to Chaos-Theory and its multiple possibilities for new creations build the backbone of my work on philosophical and poetical levels.
Another day in Paradise, which is part of the ongoing series No Blood Brain or Nervous System, has been further developed for the specific exhibition site at Wimbledon College of Art.
I consider the context of my temporal live sculptures as multi-layered and I invite the viewer to, for example, contemplate modes of social exchange and question the processes of exodus, trespassing and occupation. (Bourriaud, N.; Altermodern; Tate Publishing; 2009; thoughts in relation to cultural nomadism)
The viewer is confronted with a partially live, and hence constantly changing installation and becomes an involuntary participant of an intimate scene. Another day in Paradise is an attempt to recreate the place of Universal Harmony / Garden of Eden and was, among other things inspired by Lucas Cranach's painting 'Adam and Eve' (1526).
