As my paintings develop areas are painted, edited, wiped away and repainted. These actions leave a trace on the surface and sides of the canvas. As the traces of previous attempts accumulate and interact, new directions that a painting may take suggest themselves. This approach allows me to make paintings that do not have a predetermined destination. Instead an image emerges through a process of painting.
