Aditi Nayer
About the artist
Born in Cochin, educated at St.Xavier’s College, Bombay and then at the Chelsea College of Art, artist Aditi Nayar is currently pursuing an MA in the Visual Language of Performance at the Wimbledon College of Art.
Through devised performances, video and audio installations, she articulates her concern with our responses to life's situations and stimuli. In most of her work we see an attempt to depict our ever shrinking psychological space and ‘time to respond’. It challenges acceptation and raises questions about the individual’s right to alternative interpretation. She plays with the illusory world of visual and verbal vocabulary that survives through people's experiences and memories. Aditi’s installations rely upon audience participation where each distinctive reaction is based upon a personal bank of past experiences and the thread that runs through her work is a directness aimed at eliciting an immediate response.
Scripted Spaces is a participatory performance piece, showing at random locations and at random times during the WCA MA Show 2009. Participants read to each other from a collection of 10-minute scripts, culled from the stories we create at a cafe or while waiting on a station platform. Created in the tradition of verbatim theatre, Scripted Spaces explores the theatricality of everyday social interaction through collective creativity and interaction between artwork and spectator.
Scripted Spaces is part of the Live Space Festival, WCA MA Show 2009.
